Today I am happy to announce, that my video training „SEO for WordPress“ (the course is in German) is now online at video2brain. You may remember me talking about it in a previous post.
The training is suitable for WordPress beginners as well as for more experienced users. The topics include the technical setup, content optimisation and covers some really useful plugins. There are 5 main topics:
1. SEO basics for WordPress
In this section I explain how search engines work and how crawling and indexing can be best controled by using robots.txt, XML sitemaps, the meta tag robots, rel=“canonical“ and rel=“prev“/rel=“next“.
2. WordPress SEO in practice
This part covers all the basic settings you can make within WordPress dashboard. Here I talk about permalinks, categories and tags, how to write and format appealing content and how to optimize URLs, page titles and meta descriptions for informative and click-attracting search snippets.
Another part is image and video optimisation, using schema.org markup and testing for site speed and mobile friendliness.
3. Plugins for WordPress
This chapter gives a short overview of how to find and use the right plugins and presents a few examples of handy WordPress tools.
4. Get to know Yoasts’s SEO Plugin
There are several great SEO WordPress plugins out there, but the Yoast SEO plugin is by far my favorite. This section of the video training covers all about it. From download to setup and settings in detail. There are numerous ways this plugin can be useful. It can help you optimize your search snippets and lets you control how your post preview will look when shared on social media. You can use it to set your default URL structure, create breadcrumbs, define which pages and posts should get indexed and much more. It also helps you to integrate Google Search Console.
5. Extend WordPress functionality with plugins
As the title already suggests, this chapter is all about plugins and how to find the right ones. Their functionalities reach from helping you write great posts, reduce file size of images, check for broken links on your website or help you with your analytics.
Here is the course preview (also in German):
